Oahu, Hawaii is one of the best places to elope in the U.S. if not in the world! The beautiful island of Oahu is filled with romantic beaches, rocky shorelines, stunning mountains, and so much more. If you’re looking to elope in a place where you can have a day filled with adventure and stunning photos surrounded by beauty, Oahu is the place for you!
Andie and Andrew has the most epic Oahu, Hawaii adventure elopement! They were like many of the couples who had to postpone their larger traditional wedding day [which they eventually decided to cancel], due to COVID. Instead, they had a small wedding in their backyard during quarantine. While they loved their backyard wedding because THEY FINALLY GOT TO MARRY EACH OTHER, they didn’t feel like it was the most “them” way to celebrate. Fast forward a few months…their incredible photographer, Amanda Gillian, connected all of us. Within a week from the idea of an epic Hawaii adventure elopement day, it was officially happening!!
Part of my job as an elopement planner is to spend hours and hours researching to fine the most beautiful locations, working out logistics to make sure the day flows, and including moments to make sure the day feels like it’s everything you’ve dreamed of. Sometimes my job can feel like more a glorified wedding travel agent but I’m not complaining ha! I love to travel and nothing makes me happier than giving the couple the most incredible experience possible!
For Andie and Andrew, I proposed 3 different options that all included different location focuses until we finally found the perfect mix of beach, mountains, and adventure! And let me tell you it was SUCH A FUN DAY!!!!!! There was sentimental moments, fun moments, and moments filled with love. Keep reading to hear all their incredible, adventure filled day in Hawaii!
For their first stop of the morning, we went to Kualoa Ranch. Many people may recognize this famous landscape from watching movies like Jurassic Park or Lost. Kuala Ranch is one of my favorite places on the entire island of Oahu because it offers such unique views that truly make you feel like you’re lost in a beautifully remote island somewhere in the Pacific Ocean!
Let’s take a moment to talk about the story of Andie’s dress. When they did their small backyard wedding in COVID, they were still planning on having a larger celebration later once it was safe to do so. So Andie decided not to wear her original wedding dress on their actual wedding day and to save it for the big celebration. Well…after canceling it and having already gotten officially married, she was sad she hadn’t worn it. But when this Hawaii Adventure Elopement came to be, she FINALLYYYYY got to wear the dress of her dreams almost 2 years later!!
Next we headed to a park across the street to take a few photos at this beautiful beach! It was kind of a bonus location! :)
Before I start absolutely raving about how incredibly delicious the food was at the Aloha Shrimp Truck, I need to talk about why we chose to make “eating lunch” such an important part of their elopement day. It was about so much more than a good meal.
Sadly, Andrew’s dad passed away in March 2020 of COVID-19 and was one of the first 100 fatalities to COVID in the US. Andie shared this part beautifully, so I’d like to use her words instead of mine.
“One of the things Andrew and his dad shared was a love for cooking, and he and his dad used to run a food truck for their family’s restaurant up in the Seattle area. So even if we only spend 15-30 minutes at a food truck for all of us to eat and relax in between the adventure, I think it would mean a lot to Andrew.” – Andie
Once I was made aware of that part of their life, I knew I would stop at nothing to make this “eating lunch” one of the most special lunches they’d ever eat.
So began my endless search on Yelp, Google Reviews, Trip Advisor, and many more…
Aloha Shrimp may seem unbecoming as just a little food truck on the side of the road but it is HANDS DOWN the best shrimp you will eat on the entire island, if not in your entire life. I did extensive research to find truly the best shrimp truck on the island and search no more because this is it!! It seemed like every 5 seconds one of us would stop and say “oh my gosh this is so freaking good!!!” I still dream about eating that shrimp.
Eat here, you will thank me later for the life changing shrimp experience.
After eating the best meal of our lives, we walked next door for some fresh shave ice [a Hawaii MUST]. It was such a cute little refresh during the day before heading out to our next few locations!
Visiting Hawaii and want to try the famous Shave Ice?! Check out my blog the Best Shave Ice Places on Kauai!
Lanai Lookout is located on Oahu’s southeast shore right on Kalanianaole Highway. We had already checked off “mountain views” for the adventure elopement checklist so now it was time for the rocky cliff side of the Southeast Shore. It was VERY windy when we were up there so getting their hair to cooperate for photos was my full time job ha!
Our final location of the night, Makapuu Beach Park, is where we stayed until the sun went down. Personally, I think it’s one of the most beautiful beaches on the entire island. Later in our trip we spoke to a few locals and they actually said it was their favorite beach!
Andie and Andrew wanted to save reading their vows until sunset and it was such a sweet moment. To hear them re-confess their love to each other while the sun was setting and the ocean waves were crashing behind them. *que the tears, wow*
Keep reading to see a fun surprise they decided to do at the end of the night!
SUPRISE!!!! Andie says “I want to go jump into the ocean in our clothes!” While they wanted to go jumping the through the waves, it was a pretty rough evening so we decided to choose the safe option of this little natural ocean pond! They danced with joy and we all screamed in celebration with them! It was such a fun end to their day!
Anddddd, that’s a wrap on the most fun, adventure – filled Oahu elopement!
Andie and Andrew are truly some of the sweetest, most resilient, and positive people I’ve ever met and worked with! Planning this special day in their life will forever be one of the greatest honors. I LOVE YOU BOTH SO MUCH!!
