The Patapsco Female Institute is located in Ellicott City, Maryland. It’s a historic site that also allows a very special events every year. The Patapsco Female Institute feels like you’ve been transported to the countryside in Europe with its ruin like architecture all around. It’s the perfect place for a European inspired wedding or elopement!
Judith and Alex are the definition of a COVID love story. While they knew each other before, it was merely as friends. Alex is from Queens, New York but has spent time living abroad in London. Judith is from Mallorca, Spain but has traveled all over the world. Months of moving and traveling led up to them reconnecting last winter in Washington, D.C. Right before COVID quarantine restrictions and stay at home orders were put into place, they finally revealed what they felt for each other was more than friends.
Over the next 6 months they fell in love from “6 feet apart”. The host family Judith lived with was high risk so their time together consisted of “porch hangs”. She would sit on the front porch and Alex would sit 12 feet away on the sidewalk of Georgetown. If it would rain, they couldn’t see each other. Once it got dark, he usually had to go home. Lots of times they would bring their own food so they could “share” a meal together. Judith talked about how much she cherished this time, even though she hated not being able to hold hands or even hug him. They spend their time together with filled with hours of meaning conversation and truly getting to each other. Creating an incredible foundation for their relationship!
This editorial styled shoot was one of the first times they actually got to be with each other and show each other physical affection. Just by the way they look at each other you can tell how wildly in love they are [and the way he looks at her literally melts me]. They are both such kind hearted, sweet people. The love they have for each other is inspiring.
I’ve known them both individually for a few years but once they became a couple, I wanted to do a shoot inspired by them. From their fun, creative personalities, incredible style, and European influence. My goal for this shoot was to create a stunning, yet practical wedding inspiration for the couples looking to break the traditional. While this venue, the Patapsco Female Institute, looks like ancient ruins in Europe, it’s a hidden gem just outside of Baltimore, Maryland. I love to travel near and far for my couples, but with this venue we don’t have to! The vendors are all local to the DC/Baltimore area with the exception of the incredibly talented, Wonderland Invites. Jenna is from the United Kingdom but currently resides in a cute beach town in Southern Australia.
I will forever be wishing this was Alex and Judith’s real wedding! Until then, enjoy these joy filled photographs of their love captured by Kate Ann Photography.
